Schiff bases, the condensation products of a primary amines and an aldehyde have been used as ligands towards various lewis acids. Such bases with the functional group >C = N containing alone pair of electrons at the nitrogen atom offer a ready coordination site and behave as multidentate ligands depending upon the other substituents present in the molecule. In the present work some thorium (IV) adducts of schiff bases derived by the condensation of 2-hydroxy-1-napthal-dehyde with aromatic amines have been studied. The newly synthesized adducts have the general composition Th X4, 2L ( X = CI Br, I, NCS or No & L = Schiff bases ) are characterized by elemental, conductivity and IR spectral data. Thermal, properties of these complexs through TGA and DTA have also been investigated.
