Dithizone as well as its silver complex has been solubilised in aqueous phase with the help of Triton X-100 and a method for direct spectrophotometry determination of Ag(I) in aqueous phase developed. Molar absorption coefficient, specific absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity (calculated w.r.t. metal ion) of the complex at its λ max, 500 nm, is 3.34 x 104 1 mol-1 cm-1, 0.310 ml g-1 cm-1 and 3.22 x10-3 ug cm-2 respectively. Beer's law is valid between 1.0 x 10-6 to 9.0 x 10-6 M Ag+. Interference due to the presence of a number of common cations and anions has been studied. System hat also been investigated in derivative mode to have characteristic spectral profiles of the chromogenic species.
