The chelation of rate earth ions viz La(III), Pr(III), Nd(lII), Sm(lII), Gd(III) and Y(III) with N - thioacetyl- N-o- tolylhydroxylamine has been investigated portentiometrically at 30°C in a 50% (v/v) dioxanc-aqueous medium at 0.1 M ionic strength using the Bjerrum-Calvin pH titration technique. Stepwise and overall stability constants of all complex species formed are reported. The values obtained by other methods viz. Block and Mclntyre and pointwise calculations are in reasonable agreement with the Bjerrum-Calvin half intergral method. The stability sequence for 1:1 (metal: Iigand) chelate is found to be, Y > Gd > Sm > Nd > La > Pr.
