ABSTRACT:

The synthesis and structural features of some newly synthesized complexes of Schiff bases derived from salicyldehyde and 2-aminophenol/2-aminothiophenol with aryltellurium(IV) trichlorides, RTeCl3 (R = phenyl, p-anisyl, p-hydroxyphenyl, 3-methytl-4-hydroxyphenyl) are reported. The complexes with the formula RTeCl. SAP and RTeCl. SSP are obtained by reactions of aryltellurium trichlorides with disodium salts of salcyldehyde-2-hydroxyanil (H2SAP) and salicyldehyde-2-mercaptoanil (H2SSP). The resulting complexes have been subjected to elemental analyses, conductance measurements, molecular weight determination, infra-red and proton magnetic resonance spectral studies. Solution studies reveal the non-electrolyte nature of these complexes in solution. Spectral studies indicate the tridentate nature of Schiff bases to yield the penta coordinated tellurium complexes.
