The Kinetics of oxidation of b-alanine by N-Bromosuccinimide (NBS) has been studied electrochemically. The specific reaction rate is 8.50 M-1s-1 at 25.0 °C. The energy of activation, frequency factor and entropy of activation are found to be 17.56 kJ mole-1, 1.07 x 104 s-1 and –176.53 J mole-1 K-1 respectively. The specific reaction rate is influenced by hydrogen ion concentration and dielectric constant of the medium. The most probable mechanism has been suggested.
