Synthetic application of compounds containing methylene group (-CH2-) aliphatic compound such as ethyl acetate and diethyl malonate is well known. In the present study, the reactivity of active methylene group in heterocyclic ring such as 4-hydroxy carbostyril has been studied, specially the condensation reaction with aromatic aldehyde. To prepare its higher analogue, structure of the condensed product has been confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, spectral studies and its chemical reactivities.
