One-Pot Synthesis of 3,4-Dihydropyrimidones Catalysed by Mercury(Ii) Chloride: an Improved Procedure for Biginelli Reaction

An efficient method for the Biginelli reaction of aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate and urea employing mercuric chloride as catalyst. These improved reaction conditions allow the synthesis of a wide variety of dihydropyrimidinones in excellent yields under mild reaction conditions with simple work up procedure.
