Two novel series of 2-benzoyl-6-nitrobenzoic acid and 2-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-6-nitrobenzoic acid derivatives of amino acids, peptides and their methyl esters were synthesized by using DCC as coupling agent and TEA as base. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS spectral data as well as elemental analysis and screened for antimicrobial activities. Compounds (1ii, 1iii and 2ii) were found to exhibit potent antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria P. aeruginosa, E. coli and compounds (1ii, 2iii and 3ii) were found to be potent antifungal agents against pathogenic Candida albicans.
