Several polyesters were synthesized by high temperature polycondensation of 1,4-bis(2-carboxy styryl benzene) (CBS) with diacetates of aromatic diols: bisphenol-A (BPA), bisphenol-C (BPC), bisphenol-S (BPS), phenolphthalein (Ph), 1,5-1,7- and 2,7- dihydroxy naphthalene (DHN-1,5, DHN-1,7 and DHN-2,7 respectively) resorcinol (R), catechol (C) and hydroquinone (Hq). The yield of polyester varies from 56% to 77%. The polymers have a large of rings and have good chemical resistance. Hence, it was not possible to characterize them by conventional methods like osmometry or viscosity measurements. All the polyesters were characterized by density, IR spectra, elemental analysis and end group analysis. All the polymers were amorphous and show high degree of insolubility.
