Four chalcones were prepared by condensing acetophenones with para dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde in ethanol in presence of alkali. These chalcones were reacted with hydroxylamine hydrochloride, hydrazine hydrate, thiourea and semicarbazide hydrochloride in presence of alkali to obtain corresponding isoxazolines pyrazolones, thiazines and carboxamido pyrazolines respectively. These compounds were subjected to antimicrobial testagainstthe testorganisms, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus. Shigella dysentryand Salmonella typhi. The compounds obtained from 2'-hydroxy-5'-chloro=4=dimethlamino chalcone showed maximum antimicrobial activity.
KEYWORDS:Condensing; Aminobenzaldehyde; Isoxazolines; Carboxamido; Pyrazolines; Respectively
