Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221005 India. The alkaloids, protopine, dl-tetrahydrocoptisine, protopine-nitrate and nariumidine isolated from the stems, iumanline from the seeds and nor-sanguinanne from the whole plant of P. indica were assayed against spore germination of Alternaria solani, A tenuissima, Alternaria sp. Curvularia sp. and Fusaiium lini . Hundred percent inhibit on of spore germination was observed in Curvularia sp. and F.lini by nariumidine and fumariline respectively at 125 μml. Other compounds were less effective. It is suggested that nariumidine and fumanline can be used against some plant diseases under field conditions.
KEYWORDS:dl-tetrahydrocoptisine; Nor-sanguinanne; Curvularia; Nariumidine
