Abstract:
In this article, Y-90 microspheres are synthesized in three forms (resin microspheres, glass microspheres and gel microspheres) in Da Lat Nuclear Reactor (Vietnam) with a capacity of 500 kW for application in treatment of primary and secondary liver cancers. Characterization and quality of Y-90 microspheres are checked by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), chemical purity, radionuclide purity, radiochemical purity, sterility, bacterial endotoxins, toxic heavy metals (ICP-MS) and product stability over time. The results showed that Y-90 resin microspheres, Y-90 glass microspheres and Y-90 gel microspheres with particle sizes of 20-30 µm have a high specific activity to meet the quality standards of radiopharmaceuticals according to British Pharmacopoeia 2016. This is a promising radiopharmaceuticals in treatment of primary and secondary liver cancers using radioembolization in Vietnam.
