Abstract:
Studies have been made on the kinetics of the esterification of isopropanol with chloroacetic acids ( mono-di-and terichloroacetic acids ) using Imac 20- Ar as a catalyst. The influence of chloro-substituted acid on the conversion has been investigated. It is found to be the percent conversion and the rate of reaction are higher for monochloroacetic acid as compared with dichloroacetic acid. While in case of trichloroacetic acid, gave a negative results when reacted with isopropanol at the same variable conditions. The experimental data was found to fit a second order bimolecular kinetic equation. The rate constant (k1) for two acids have been calculated. The velocity constant was found to bear linear relationship with the molecular weight* amount of catalyst, molar ratio of reactants but is reciprocal of temperature. The effect of temperature on the three acids at different interal-time were investigated and studied. The values of specific rate constant (k1) for mono*, and dichloroacetic acids with isopropanonl have been found to be greatly affected by silica get as dehydrator.
