Abstract

The Isokinetic Relationship for Heterogeneous Reaction Systems

Wm. Curtis Conner2 And Wolfgang Linert1*

Abstract:

The occurrence of a common point (area) of intersection of Arrhenius lines, called Isokinetic Relationship can be interpreted as a relation between temperature dependent (e.g., Ea) and independent terms (e.g., "preexponential") kinetic factors. In analogy to homogeneous phase reactions a heat bath analysis is used to express the interaction between the reacting species and the sources of available thermal energy within the total reaction system. The isokinetic temperature, ic the ternpra cure at which all members of the reaction seaction series exhibit identical reaction rates this value is associated with the ratio of the changes of the mentioned factors within the series), can be related to an active heat bath frequency. This relationship is exemplified and ihstcd using information from the infrared spectra of catalytic solids assumed to act as heat bath systems. Agreement between theory and available experimental data is found and testifies to a relationship between the energetic availability and accessibility for reacting systems.
