Abstract
Equilibrium Studies on the Formation of Binary Metal Chelates of Bivalent Metal Ions With Schiff Bases
Abstract:
Formation constants of binary metal chelates of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with 2[[(1H-benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl) imino] methyl]-4-chlorophenol (CI-BMIMP) and 2([1H-benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl) imino] methyl]-4-methoxypheno| (MeO-BMIMP) have been determined pH metrically in 60% v/v aq. methanol at 300C and I=0.1 M (NaC1O4) and compared with the formation constants of 2[[(1H-benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl) imino]-methyl] phenol (BMIMP) complexes. The order of stability constants with respect to metal ions is in conformity with Irving* William's natural order of stabilities. With respect to the ligands, the stability sequence (MeO-BMIMP > BMIP > Cl-BMIMP) is in accordance with their relative basicities.
