Abstract:
A method for the extractive spectrophotometry determination of palladium (II) with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (HNPS) has been studied. The method is based on the formation of the palladium (ll)-HNPS complex which is exrracted into chloroform from sulfuric acid medium. The extracted species has absorption maxima at 412 and 437 nm with the molar absorptivity of 1.41 x 104 1 mol-1 cm-1 at the latter wavelength. The complex system conforms to Beer's law up to 8.0 μml-1 of palladium (II). The method has been satisfactorily applied to the determination of palladium in palladium brazing filler metal and in palladium-catalyst samples.
