Abstract:

Fluorine content of tea consumed by Indian people was studied. Potentiality of tea as a contributer to fluorine was evaluated. Fluorine content of 16 samples of tea was determined in dry and infused forms. The results indicated a large variation in their fluorine contents. The variation of flourine in dry tea was found to be 192 ug/g to 297 ug/g. The fluorine content of infusion vaired in the range of 0.91 to 1.31 ug/ml. It was estimated that daily intake of 5 cups of such teas approximately may contribute to the ingestion of 727 to 982 ug. of fluorine. No specific relation could be established between the fluorine content of tea and percent of its extraction under similar conditions.
