Abstract:
2-Hydroxy 4-n-propoxy valerophenone oxime [HPVOX] has been used for the spectrophotometry determination of Fe(lll) at pH 2.5 in 75% aqueous ethanol medum. Job's method of continuous variation and Yoe and Jones mole ratio method show metal:ligand ratio in the complex to be 1:1. The stabilty constant of the complex is found to be 4.075x105. The standard free energy change for the complex formation reaction is found to be -7.78 K.cal/mole at room temperature. The Beer law is obeyed upto 16.75 ppm of Fe(lll) ion. The molar absorptivity of complex at 500 nm is found to be 8.40x102 lit. mol-1 .cm-1. The reagent has also been found to give quite satisfactory results for the analyss of iron in pharmaceutical preparations and dolomite ore.
