A. Peric and I. Plecas

Abstract:

Two groups of the radioactive waste-mortar mixture samples, orthocylinder shaped, H=D=4.5 cm. with the external surface completely open to contact leachant. were treated on leaching using accelerated and nonaccelerated leaching processes. Parallel with the measuring the radionuclide 137Cs leach-rate. Ca2+ concentration in the leachant was measured, after each leachant renewal. Periodically, series of three samples from each group were withdrawn from the leaching experiments, in aim to define their electrical resistance. Investigated samples were conditioned on the 105°C for 7 days, In aim to evaporate ail the Intrinsic or bonded water of the mortar matrix. For the electrical resistance measuring purposes, special measuring device was constructed. Sample, that is Introduced to the electrical resistance measurement, is connected to the electrodes with the gelatinous mass of the high electrical conductivity. Instrument treats radwaste-mortar mixture sample as a resistance in the electrical circuit Intensity of the direct electric current, applied in the measurements, was order of 10-6 A. Results of performed investigation have shown tie relationship between Ca2+ depletion from the mortar matrix composition and electric resistance of the radwaste-mortar mixture sample and they could suggest the quality of the matrix material in the extended experimental time.
