Abstract
Kinetic Evidence for Oxydianionic Tetrahedral Intermediate in the Hydrolysis of Methyl Salicylate
S. Sugunan and Mercy lype
Abstract:
The alkaline hydrolysis of methyl salicylate in 5%, 20% and 40% (v/v) aq 1.4 dioxane is studied as a function of (OH)- from 0.05- 0.4 mole dm-3 at constant ionic strength. The observed pseudo first order rate coefficient is found to be made up of terms due to the attack of H2O molecule and OH on ionized methyl-salicylate and a term involving the participation of oxydianionic tetrahedral intermediate.
