Abstract:
Seed oil of Eclipta prostrata (Compositae) has been found to contain 5.44% of 12-hydroxy-cis-9-octahedecenoic acid, previously unreported in this species using chromatographic techniques TLC, GLC), and spectroscopic anlayses (IR, UV, NMR and MASS) along with chemical identifications (catalytic hydrogenation, Reductive deoxygenation, Jones' oxidation and oxidative degradation). Other prominent component of the oil are palmitic acid (25.45%) and oleic acid (45.66%).
