Abstract:
Cadmium is a apriori toxic metal and uranium is extensively used in nuclear technology. Therefore, separation of these metal ions from other ions like Cu+2, Co+2, Ni+2, etc. assumes great significance. Separation of Cu+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Cd+2, and U02+2, ions in their binary, ternary and quarternary mixtures using mixture of acetone, water and acetic acid or hydrochloric acid in different quantities has been achieved. Rf values for different cations have been calculated in the binary, ternary and quarternary mixtures. A mixture of acetone and water (100 ml: 25 ml) along with varying amount of acetic acid was used as a mobile phase and 0.1% solution of rubeanic acid in acetone as spraying agent.
