S. S. Khan and M. N. Khan

Abstract:

In the present investigation, the soil samples from various areas of Bhopal and its suburbs were collected from the places of luxuriant growth of 26 leguminous plants which include herbs, shrubs as well as trees. The analysis of soil samples revealed that all the plants grow In alkaline soils with range of pH between 7.4 to 7.7 The nitrogen contents of various sites of occurrence of these plants range from 0.34 for Acacia leucophioea to 1.00% {Alysicarpus rugosus end Derris scandens). The phosphorous contents were as low as 3.24 for Acacia leucophioea and as high as 23.60 kg/acre in case of Tamarindus indica. Similarly, the potassium requirements range from 42 kg/acre for Tephrosia purpurea to 600 kg/acre for Alysicarpus rugosus.
