Abstract:
2-Hydroxy-5-methylbenzophenone oxime [HMBO] has been used for spectrophotometric determination of Mo(VI) in pH range 2.0 to 4.0. Job’s method and mole of continuous variation and Yoe and Jones mole ratio method show metal ligand ratio in the complex to be 1:1. The molar absorptivity of complex at 540 nm is found to be 6.41 x 102 lit. mole-1.cm-1 and Sandell’s sensitivity is found to be 0.017 μg/cm2. The Beer’s law is obeyed upto 23.03 ppm of Mo(VI) ion at 530 nm. The stability constant determined spectrophotometrically is found to be 1.1 x 106 and Gibbs free energy change for complex formation is calculated to be -8.27 K.cal/mole.
