Abstract:
Some novel complexes of ligands a-mercapto phenylacetohydroxamic acid (MPA-H) and a-mercapto-2-amino phenylacetohydroxamic acid (MAPA-H) with Cu(II) having the formulae- [Cu L (HCOO) (H2O)2]2H2O; (Cu LCl (Py)2]; (Cu L Cl (Py-O)2]; - [CuL’ (HCOO) (H2O)]2H2O; (Cu L CI (Py)]; (Cu L Cl (Py-O)2] {where L=MPA and L’= MAPA} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic and conductance measurements. IR, ESR and electronic spectral studies. The ligand MPA-H and MAPA-H were found to behave as monobasic tridentate (SOO donor) and tetra dentate (SOON donor) manner respectively. All the complexes were non-electrolyte and distorted octahedral with magnetic moment raining form 1.79 to 1.92 B.M. The X- band ESR spectra of the complexes were seen to be characteristic of Cu (II) in the ligand field with axial symmetry.
