Abstract:

The various physico-chemical properties of the Nizam Deccan Sugar Factory (NDSF) waste water, polluted Pandu lake water and Bore-wells water along the streams of factory effluents flowing with in the heart of the Bodhan town of Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh were studied. Non-polluted Potable Bellal lake water of Bodhan town was also examined for comparison. The result reveals that electrical conductivity (salt load) was found in between 1557-13050 μm cm-1. Sugar industry waste water and Pandu lake water showed the higher BOD above the BIS standards. E. coli and Coliform count MPN/100 ml were highest in Industrial waste water and Pondu Lake water comparatively it is lower in case of Bore wells water in the surroundings of Pandu lake, i.e. ranged from 62 to 1280 and 39 to 5300 respectively. Such water is neither useful for drinking nor for the agricultural fields. Long term application of such water for irrigation may spoil the soil permanently for cultivation.
