N. Vijayakumari and K.Srinivasan*
Abstract:
Activated carbon prepared from Coconut Oilcake Residue (CORC) an agricultural waste byproduct, after the extraction of coconut oil has been used for an adsorption of Hg (||) from synthetic wastewater. Adsorption data fit better with the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The applicability of the first order kinetic model has been investigated, an almost 95% removal of 10 mg/L Hg (||) by 2g of CORC per litre of Aqueous solution was observed in the pH range (4-7) . A comparative study with a Commercial Granular Activated Carbon (CAC) showed that an adsorption capacity Kf of (CORC) was 9 times larger than that of CAC.
