Abstract:
The fatty acid composition of seeds of six plant species vez. Verononia cinerea, Zennia elegans (Asteraceae), Pergularia daemia, Calortopis gigantean, Calatropis procera (Asclepia daceae) and Mirabilis jalapa (Nyctangiaceae) were analysed. All the seeds were collected from arid/semi arid zone of Rajasthan and studied for their component fatty acids and physico-chemical characteristics using U.V., L.R., T.L.C. and GLC techniques. The oils have been found rich in unsaturated acid. The predominating acid is linoleic acid. It was found as major component in Vernonia cinerea and Calortopis procera as 55.48 and 77.27% respectively.
