Abstract:
Three simple sensitive and reproducible visible spectrophotometric methods (A-C) for the determination of azatadine maleate (AZA) in bulk samples and pharmaceutical formulations are described. Method A is based on the formation of coloured species with citric acid - acetic anhydride (CiA-Ac2O). Method B is based on the quantitative precipitation of AZA with Iodine (I2) and estimating the unreacted I2 with P-N-methylaminophenol sulphate (PMAP)- sulphanilic acid (ScA). Method C is based on the formation of coloured co-ordination complex with cobalt thiocyanate (CTC). Regression analysis of Beer's law plots showed good concentration ranges 1.9-20, 4.4-50 and 19.3-250 μg/ml for methods A, B and C respectively. The applicability of the methods were examined by analysing tablets or syrup of AZA.
