Abstract:
The effect of HBr acid concentration on the equilibrium between HNO2 and NO+ has been studied by UV spectrophotometry. Characteristic bands of molecular nitrous acid weaken as hydrobromic acid percentage increases. The concurrent appearing band at Amax 240 and 260 nm were assigned to solvatcd and free NO+ respectively. Beer's law is valid at the region of acidity studied. Attempt to fit the data to acidity functions H° and J° are reported.
