Abstract:
Particularly stable 2-ammonioethanide compounds are prepared and characterized when amines attack the π bonded ethene, propene and cis-but-2-ene in chloro (8-quninolinoIate) (η2-aIkene) platinum (II) compounds. When 2-ammoniethanide compounds (amCHRCHR *Pt) are formed, the direction of attack is determined by electronic rather than steric effects. Equd-ibeium constants have been measured for the reaction am + Ptn (i^-CHRCHR*) m am* CHRCH~R*Pt and are discussed in terms of the nature of attacking amine (am) and show that steric factors tend to prevent the formation of the 2-ammonioethanide compounds.
