Abstract:
2~Hydroxy-4-isopropoxyacetophenone thiosemicarbazone [HIPAT] has been used for the spectrophotometry determination of Ni( II) at pH-9.0 in 70% aqueous ethanol. Jobs method of continous variation and Yoe and Jones mole - ratio method show metal : ligand ratio in the complex to be 1:2. The stability constant of the complex is found to be 4.43x10'°. The standard free energy change for the complex formation reaction is found to be -14.75 K.cal/mole at room temperature. The Beer's law is obeyed upto 16.44 ppm of Ni( II) ton. The molar absorptivity and Sandell sensitivity of the complex at 400 nm were found to be 8.40x102 lit .mol' 1CWI-1 and 0.050 μg/cm2 respectively. The reagent has also been found to give satisfactory results for the analysis of nickel in nickel-alluminium alloy.
