Abstract:
Several new thiocyanato complexes of Cu(ll), Pd(ll), Ti(lll) and V(IV) with tridentate Schiff bases ligand C13H11N2O (SB-1 & SB-2) having ONO donor sequence derived from the condensation of saficyladehyde with O-aminophenol and m-aminophenol have been prepared. The complexes have the composition K[M(C13H9NO2)(SCN)3], K2[M(C13H9NO2)(SCN)3] and K2[V(O) (C13H9NO2)(SCN)2] [M=Cu(ll), Pd(ll) and Ti(lll), C13H9NO2=SB-1 & SB-2]. The complexes were isolated from the reaction in solid form and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, conductivity, magnetic measurements, and infrared and NMR spectra and electronic spectroscopic studies. The molar conductances indicate that the copper (II) and palladium (II) complexes are 1:1 electrolytes in DMSO while the vanadium (IV) and Titanium (III) complexes are 2:1 electrolytes. The phsico-chemical studies suggest the octahedral structure of V(IV) and Ti(lll) and squre-planar structure of Cu(ll) and Pd(III) complexes.
