Abstract
Synthesis and Applications of Vinyl Polymer - Grafted Guaran
A. V. Singh and Vikal Gupta
Abstract:
One of the important advances in the technology of chemical modification of polysaccharides has been the technique of polymer grafting. The polymer grafts of varying hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity can be incorporated into the strongly hydrophilic polysaccharide matrix. The vinyl monomers offer a wide range of polymers with varying degree of hydrophobicity. These include acrylamide, acrylonitrible, vinylacetate and styrene. Guaran gum polysaccharide has been grafted with acrylonitrile, acrylamide, vinylacetate and styrene and the properties of some of these graft copolymers have been determined.
