Abstract:

Four simple, sensitive and reproducible visible spectrophotometric methods (A-D) for the determination of Dimetridazole (DMZ) in bulk samples and pharmaceutical formulations are described. They are based on the formation of coloured species by treating reduced DMZ (RDMZ) with p-N-methylaminophenol sulphate (metol) following oxidation with potassium dichromate (Cr(VI)) (Method A) or condensation products with aromatic aldehydes namely, 4-dimethyl amino benzaldehyde (PDAB) under acidic conditions (Method B); molecular complex formation with sodium nitropursside (SNP) in the presence of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (HA) (Method C) or DMZ with p-aminophenol (PAP)-molecular oxygen (O2) (Method D). Regression analysis of Beer's law plots showed good concentration range 1.6-20.00 μg/ml, 2-25 μg/ml and 2.5-25 μg/ml and 3.5-40 μg/ml for methods A, B, C and D respectively. The applicability of the methods were examined by analysing dimetridazole premix.
