Abstract:
Several platinum (II) and palladium (II) complexes of the general formula [M(DMSO)2X2] (X2=Cl2, CBDC, maleate, C2O4, malonate and Cychex C), K[M(DMSO)Cl3], [M(NH3)3Cl]Cl, [Pt(COD)Cl2], [Pd(pyrazole)Cl2], [MLL'Cl2] (L=DMSO, L'=harmine or harmaline or (Ferr)2Php; L=C6H11NH2, L'=harmine; L=pyrazole, L'=harmaline) and [Pt(DMSO) {(Ferr)2Php)}X2] (X =CBDC or C2O4), have been screened for their anticomplimentary activity in vitro together with three anti-cancer drugs (for comparison), using a test that detects complement inhibition. The results obtained indicated that the activity of most of these complexes ranging between highly active to moderately active with IC50 values of 0.0001 ot 0.01 μg mL-1 compared with those of the three anti-cancer drugs (IC50 < 0.1 μg mL-1). Attempts have been made to relate the anti-complementary activities of these complexes to their structures and their cytotoxicity. The significance of the results obtained is discussed.
