A number of 1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-ones 1a-e was reacted with semicarbazide HCl and thiosemicarbazide to afford two series of 3,5-diaryl-4,5-dihydropyrazoles 2a-c and 3a,b. Cyclization of 3a,b with 4-bromophenacyl bromide and ethyl chloroacetate afforded 4,5-dihydropyrazolylthiazoles 4a,b and 5a,b. Finally, some of the new compounds were tested for their possible antimicrobial activity.
