This paper describes dynamic column studies of nicotine with gel type strongly acidic cation exchange resin, variation in flow rate as solvent medium both during exchange and elution of nicotine were studied to optmise the column paremeters and choice of the solvent medium. A total of 29 runs indicate that n/100 sulfuric acid may be used as extraction solvent for nicotine from tobacco and tobacco waste and n/10 ammonia in 50% (v/v) aqueous ethyl alcohol to eltute the nicotine absorbed on the resin column.
KEYWORDS:Nicotine with gel; Nicotine from tobacco; Ammonia; Ethyl alcohol
