The behaviour of diacetyl-monoxime phenylhydrazone was investigated in buffer solutions of pH = 2.12. In acid media the fast protonation rate of the oxime group prevails leading to deactivation of the hyrazone linkage. At pH > 7 the oxime group is present in the less reactive free oxime, whereas the hydrazone linkage present in zwitterionic form is readily reduced along pH independent wave. The acidbase equilibrium was also investigated spectrophotometrically.
