Cation exchange behaviour of Bismuth (III) of Dowex 50W-X8 has been studied in mixed solvent and non-aqueous systems. Acetone . Ethanol. Butanol. 2-Propanol. Dioxanc and Tetrahydrofuran in conjunction with 0.2 M HBr used as eluants. The method has been successfully applied for the separation of Bi(III) from As (III) and Sb (III) . Bismuth ion after cluting is determined hy thiourea Spectrophotomctrically. The method is applicable to the analyst of pharmaceutical samples, alloys and synthetic mixtures.
