The analytical potential of a new reaction between Ce (IV) and [Ru(CN)6]2- ions has been investigatigated for the colorimetric determination of cerium in simple matrices. The orange-brown colored species absorbing at 456 nm is sensitive toward Ce (IV) in 1.5-80 ppm range.
