A series of noncyclic oxocrowns have synthesized by transestrificatton of different poly ethylene glycols. Conductivities of alkali metal salt in the presence of these oxocrowns were measured at 25°C in methanol. Formation constants (KML+) of complexes were determined. Isolation and transport studies were carried out. Inspite of being an open chain oxocrowns the complexing properties are retained. The complexes are less stable than cyclic ligands. Transport studies show that the specificity lost in going from cyclic to noncyclic carriers M ligand interaction is hampered by anion in accordance with its basicity & ion pairing ability. No selectivity observed for Na+ ion by these ligands.
