4, 5-Dihydro-6-(2'-dibenzothienyl~3-(2H) pyridazinone (IIIa) was obtained as a main product in the reaction of B- (2'-dibenzothieny) propionic acid with hydrazine hydrate. Dehydrogenation of (IIIa) with bromine gave (IV) which on treatment with phosphorous oxychloride gave the chloro derivative (V). Interaction of (V) with amines gave (VI). The effect of diazomethane, isocyanate, isothiocyanates, peosphorous pentasulphide and o-chlorobenzeldchyde on (IlIa) was discussed.
