3,4,5-trimethoxy-4*-methyl dibenzoyl-methane has been synthesised end used for spectrophoto-metry; determination of Ce(III). The reagent formed a yellow complex which darkened after IS minutes to brownish yellow colour at pH range 6.9 to 7.5 with working wave length 410 am. The composition of the complex was found as Ce(III): R=l:2. Values of molar absorptivity, Sandell's sensitivity, stability constant (log K) and free energy of formation were found to be 1700cm-1 mole-1, 0.082 ug cm-2, 7.2430, - 9.9433 K cals mole-1 respectively.
