The reaction of iron metal with acetic acid in presence of the oxidizing nitrate ion has been investigated and the nature of the iron entity present in such an acidic solution is identified. The later exchanges reversibiy with the amberlite resin (H+ form) and elutes easily by HC1 solution. Analysis of the crystallized eluted product confirmed the presence of [Fe3O] I.R., U. V. spectra are reported.
