The oxidative kinetic study of L-Ascorbic acid (H2A) by manganic pyrophosphate (MPP) has indicated a first order dependence in both [H2A] and [MPP]. The rate of oxidation decreased with an increase in pH and [pyrophosphate], but remained unaffected with the addition of other salts viz., SO4-2, HSO4"~, CIO4-, F- and Mn2+. The rate of oxidation is found to proceed faster in the solvent (binary mixture of acetic acid and water) of low dielectric constant, substantiating the participation of an ion in the rate-limiting step.
