An alternative method for the calculation of the numerical order of the chemical shift of the X-ray absorption edge it proposed. When a metal undergoes a chemical combination and forms a compound its electroncgatrvity changes. It has been found that the calculated values of the change in electronegativity correspond well with the experimentaliy observed values of the chemical shift.
