3-Nitro- ∝-methyl dibenzoylmethane forms 1 : 1 yellow complex with thorium at pH 3-4 with working wave length 390 nm. Values of molar absorptivity, Sandell's sensitivity, stability constant (log K) and free energy of formation were found to be 10000 cm-1 mole-1,0.023 μgcm-2,4.273, and 5.865 Kcals mole-1 respectively. Beer's law is valid in the concentration range 2 x 10-5M to 5 x 10-5M.
