The kinetics of Ru(III) catalysed oxidation of benzyl alcohol in acid media, has been investigated. A first order dependence on benzyl alcohol, chloride ion, hydrogen ion and Ru(lII) were observed. But zero order kinetics was observed on BAT*. The reaction rate is unaffected by changing the concentration of P-toluene sulphonamide and there is insignificant effect of ionic strength on the reaction rate. Activation parameters were calculated and recorded. Reaction mechanism based on our kinetic observations, was proposed.
