Tolbutamide, (trade, Restinon) forms 2:1 complex with mercuric acetate in alcoholic medium as indicated by conductometric titrations and Job's method of continuous variation. Structure assigned to the complex is supported by analytical data and infra-red spectroscopy. Preliminary pharmacological studies conducted on a dog revealed that metal complex of this drug is more potent than the parent drug.
